At conference on Monday I guessed we would soon start to see Gordon Brown's star in the ascendant once again. My favourite cartoonist, Steve Bell of the Guardian, has lampooned the process with typical acerbic insight. David Cameron must be hating this even more than George Bush, but at least DC can console himself with the knowledge that he understands satire. Ho hum.

But how long will this image of Brown as superhero last?

I'm guessing that as soon as people start to relax about the "FiCri", people may ask more about Brown's role in the disaster, and whether we really want to see a return to the insane levels of lending prevailing in 2007.
